The Helston/Lizard Run on Sunday 29 August 2010 proved to be very good for all who attended with a larger entry than usual. We entered LH 716(MUO 328F) and VR 1003(VDV 141S). Our chairman took WHOTTThe West Country Historic Omnibus & Transport Trust's Bristol RELH 1460(OTA 632G) as 'friend' Steve was unable to attend with his Royal Blue Bristol LHBristol Commercial Vehicles Light Horizontal engined. On the 5 September 2010, Steve, accompanied by 'friend' Lee, took his Bristol LH to The Torbay Vintage Bus Running Day based in Torquay and had a brilliant day until they lost the clutch as they neared home. Unfortunately, when you are still running vehicles that are nearly forty years old, these things happen but Steve would prefer it if they didn't happen with his vehicle! On the same day, 'friend' Colin brought his low loader to St Columb Major and with some help, removed the Bristol MW to his base in Devon. Our Mercedes VarioMercedes-Benz Vario (model designation W670) is a heavy van manufactured by Mercedes-Benz 52529(S529 RWP) has just got through her MOT but not before causing Steve and Lee to have some late nights getting her ready. The 3rd Kingsbridge Vintage Bus Running Day is on Saturday 18 September 2010 and we hope to have the Vario, VR 1003 and the LH working some routes. The event, put on by The Thames Valley & Great Western Omnibus Trust, celebrates 50 years since the introduction of the Bristol SU bus which was the mainstay of local bus operations in the 1960's, especially working out of the Kingsbridge depot which closed in 1971. Free services will run to Salcombe, Bantham, Thurlestone, Hope, Sherford and South Pool, Beesands and East Portlemouth, Slapton, East Allington. Totnes, Loddiswell and California Cross, Modbury and Bigbury-on-Sea. The views in this area are stunning so don't miss it. WHOTTS 8th Rally follows on the Sunday at Westpoint, Exeter.
One of the many liveries worn by our LeylandLeyland Bus was a British bus manufacturer. It emerged from the Rover Group (formerly British Leyland) as a management buyout of the bus business. It was subsequently acquired by Volvo Buses in 1988 and the name finally disappeared in 1993 OlympianLeyland Olympian was a double-decker bus built by British Leyland/Leyland Bus in the United Kingdom from 1980 to 1993. 34754 (A754 VAF) was the white 'National Express' one of the 1980's and we are considering this for her re-paint this winter. There may well be another vehicle for re-painting but this has not been decided yet. There is nothing further to report at the moment on the Bristol LD residing in France, however there is a possibility of another vehicle acquisition for the CBPSCornwall Bus Preservation Society - formed by a group of bus and coach enthusiasts who are involved in maintaining, restoring and preserving a number of buses which saw operational service in Cornwall that have been bought, donated or even loaned to members of the group which is at an early stage of negotiation so I will keep you posted on this.
