CBPS news update for October 2011

I've just realised that I haven't done the October news update so here it is, better late than never! We find ourselves at that part of the year where it is difficult to do now lots of jobs we intended to do months ago. For some of us, October signals the start of work commitments at weekends which will take us up to Christmas but leaving that aside, we still do not have a premise suitable for working on our buses.

Please all of you bus enthusiasts out there if you can, help us to find some suitable farm buildings with good road access so that the CBPSCornwall Bus Preservation Society - formed by a group of bus and coach enthusiasts who are involved in maintaining, restoring and preserving a number of buses which saw operational service in Cornwall that have been bought, donated or even loaned to members of the group can work all year round on our fleet. Not only that, we want to expand and have some other acquisitions in mind which we can't consider without a suitable base.

Talking of acquisitions, congratulations to 'friend' Colin Billington who has managed to add to his fleet former Taunton based Southern National LeylandLeyland Bus was a British bus manufacturer. It emerged from the Rover Group (formerly British Leyland) as a management buyout of the bus business. It was subsequently acquired by Volvo Buses in 1988 and the name finally disappeared in 1993 PD1A 2932(JUO 992). This addition means Colin is reunited with one of the buses on which he used to ride to school! Talking of 'school buses', Colin's Bristol FLF 1969(468 FTT) used to be one of my regular 'school buses' at Camborne in the late 1960's!

I believe the revival of the Winkleigh event at the start of the month was a great success with warm, fine weather enjoyed by those attending helping to make up for all those previously soaking wet days that we all still remember! I also understand that the Warminster event was a good one which we must try to get to next year.

Nothing has changed with our fleet since I last reported but keep watching this space.
