Welcome to all Bus & Coach enthusiasts to our March 2011 news update. It seems that winter is well behind us but unfortunately I can remember heavy snow falling in west Cornwall on a Good Friday that fell in April so we must not get over confident. The news on our fleet is that the vehicles remain as listed before and they are still stored in the two counties. Our LeylandLeyland Bus was a British bus manufacturer. It emerged from the Rover Group (formerly British Leyland) as a management buyout of the bus business. It was subsequently acquired by Volvo Buses in 1988 and the name finally disappeared in 1993 OlympianLeyland Olympian was a double-decker bus built by British Leyland/Leyland Bus in the United Kingdom from 1980 to 1993. 34754(A754 VAF) is booked for its MOT and we are confident that she will be on the road soon and featuring in our Running Day on Sunday 17 April 2011.

That leads me nicely to the vehicle entry list for this years event. I will start with double decked buses and Bristol VR's which hopefully will include:- 1056(OTA 290G), 1075(BFJ 175L), 1003(VDV 141S), 1106(SFJ 106R), 1128(XDV 608S), 1157(AFJ 764T), 1168(FDV 780V), 1200(LFJ 844W), 1203(LFJ 847W) and 1211(LFJ 858W). Next is our OlympianModels of double decker bus built by Leyland and Volvo: * Leyland Olympian * Volvo Olympian * Volvo Olympian (low-floor), also known as Volvo B9TL , 1807/1754/34754(A754 VAF) followed by 9009/34969(G909 TWS). Also there will be Volvo CitybusLivery used on Plymouth City Buses 5708/38008(D708 GHY). We hope to have Bristol LD 1943(VDV 760) if possible. Single decked buses are represented by:- Bristol LHBristol Commercial Vehicles Light Horizontal engined's, 716(MUO 328F) and 1318(BDV 318L), Bristol LWL 1613(LTA 772), Bristol LHS's 1254(VOD 124K) and 1560(FDV 790V) with Leyland National's, 2869(AFJ 708T) and 2813(HTA 844N). It is our aim to have all of the above listed vehicles in operation at some time during the day over a variety of routes out of Penzance which will include, Lands End, St Just, St Ives (3 routes), Hayle, Perranuthnoe, Madron and Mousehole.  Probably the centre stage attraction will be the static display of Colin Billington's fully restored 1927 Guy FBB 1268(YF 714). This bus was operated by Great Western Railway Road Motors and is in brown and cream livery. Look out for a unique photo opporunity when the Guy and 1003 VR are together! We think we may be able to top last years running day so tell all your friends who may have an interest in bus transport spanning some eighty plus years that they shouldn't miss this chance to sample what it was like. Make sure you are in Penzance on the 17 April and lets hope it will be as sunny as last year.
