Just time for a few lines updating the events we have attended and news on our vehicles. Our LeylandLeyland Bus was a British bus manufacturer. It emerged from the Rover Group (formerly British Leyland) as a management buyout of the bus business. It was subsequently acquired by Volvo Buses in 1988 and the name finally disappeared in 1993 OlympianLeyland Olympian was a double-decker bus built by British Leyland/Leyland Bus in the United Kingdom from 1980 to 1993. 34754(A754 VAF) and Bristol LHBristol Commercial Vehicles Light Horizontal engined 716(MUO 328F) took part in the Cornwall Coastal Run on Sunday 26 June 2011 and a good day was enjoyed with both vehicles completing the route which had been shortened this year due to the high price of diesel fuel. The next event for us was the Western National Preservation GroupWestern National Preservation Group's Rally on the Hoe on 24 July. Thanks to some good work by 'friend' Steve and fellow engineer Derek, WHOTTThe West Country Historic Omnibus & Transport Trust's Royal Blue coach 1460(OTA 632G) and our Bristol VRBristol VR was Bristol's rear-engined bus chassis, designed as a competitor to the Leyland Atlantean and Daimler Fleetline. 1003(VDV 141S) were both submitted for MOT's on Friday 22 July and both now have a 12 months certificate. Well done to all. This meant that we took both of these along with Bristol LH 716(MUO 328F) and Mercedes VarioMercedes-Benz Vario (model designation W670) is a heavy van manufactured by Mercedes-Benz 52529(S529 RWP) to Plymouth at the weekend. A lovely dry day brought out the enthusiasts but vehicle enties were down on previous years with very little entered by First and Stagecoach. However, First staff at Camborne prepared and turned out a 'prestine' looking Volvo B7 69229(MX56 AEV) for judging and 'friend' Bob who drove it to Plymouth, had to collect 3 trophies on the day! Again, well done to all who worked so hard to get a service bus looking so good.
As before, our Bristol VR's 38749(AFJ 749T) and 38873(LFJ 873W) remain stored. However, 1141(AFJ 706T) is being prepared for a repaint shortly at Kingsbridge. Our next event is St Buryan Show in west Cornwall on Saturday 30/31 July followed by the Brislington Rally at Bristol on 14 August. If you are interested in what we are doing, why not join us.
